Squla is defining what’s next _ in Children’s Online Learning.
The project summary
Squla is making the world a better place through primary education! We build a fun web platform for educational games where thousands of children learn their school curriculum in a playful way. We started small, with focus only on the Dutch primary school (grades 1 - 8) syllabus. Now we have expanded to France and Poland, with a successful pilot in China thrown in as a bonus!
Our project: a is implementing algorithms on our learning platform to improve the adaptive, personalized learning paths for our students.
We have grown larger than most conventional definitions of a startup, but at heart, we still embrace a startup philosophy. Your role/ opportunity
As a full-stack developer at Squla, your job involves:
Building cool features on the fun-learning platform, at scale and in a distributed architecture, for multiple country-deployments;
Using machine learning algorithms and working with our data scientists to solve our current biggest challenges;
Having a say in the sprint-planning: goals for sprints are decided within your mini-teams, or goal squads;
Deploying code to the live platform using our continuous deployment pipeline: - Commit code to github, build and run automated tests in Jenkins, deploy to AWS.
Designing and creating automated tests, performance tests.
What we expect from you
We use Python as the main language in our tech stack, but we don’t insist on Python-specific expertise. Instead we like to talk to developers who:
have a Bachelors’ or Masters’ degree in computer science or a related field;
have 2+ years’ experience in software development.
have great computer science fundamentals and analytical abilities;
excellent understanding of data structures and their uses;
a good foundation in relational database concepts and practices;
are comfortable in multiple programming languages;
are quick learners (the programming language is but a tool for achieving an end-goal);
have a pragmatic approach to problem solving, can get things done;
are team players, with a positive attitude.

How do we work?
In mini-teams of 2-3 developers working towards the same sprint goals, working closely with product owners and business owners, using agile scrum methodology with 2-week sprints.

The Squla office is in a central part of Amsterdam (Weesperplein): close to public transport, convenient to reach from the suburbs by train, as well as a good cycling distance for those living within Amsterdam.
